Help to End Gender-Based Violence in Cambodia
Did you know that roughly six in 10 Cambodian women suffer from at least one form of violence before age 18? Think about it. What would you do if you lived with the lifelong struggle of physical and sexual violence like these women and girls in Cambodia do?
In Cambodia, the health, legal, and welfare services are inadequate or inaccessible for most victims of physical and sexual violence. That is why World Hope International is partnering with UN Women on a special program called Enhancing Responses, which is treating woman and girl survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Cambodia so that they can thrive, despite the trauma they have endured. In partnership with Hagar International, WHI is training government social workers how to counsel victims and manage cases of violence against women and girls. Because of this training, survivors engage with other survivors in their communities, feel heard and understood, and take steps to pursue their legal rights.
We are calling on donors like you to help us raise $50,000 by December 31, 2017 to provide increased access to health, legal, and welfare services for these victims. We anticipate that as women and girls successfully transform from victims to survivors, even more individual victims will be encouraged to seek support services and begin their own recoveries.
Increased access to services will spark a cycle of empowerment among women and girls – and will foster an environment where gender-based violence is no longer accepted as the status quo. Additionally, improved intervention and services will help to mitigate both immediate and long-term effects of trauma for these women and girls.
